The 2016 Youth Power Summit is a youth-led, inspirational, agitational and educational half-day event organized by Mid-City CAN and ACLU-SDIC’s youth programs and supported by Global Action Research Center, Access Inc., and Planned Parenthood. The Summit will bring awareness to the over criminalization of youth of color in our region and provide the skills and tools needed to combat it. A core planning team comprise of youth leaders in San Diego decided this year’s theme will be the School-to-Prison Pipeline and how to dismantle it. Through interactive activities, speakers, music and youth-led workshops, participants will learn about a range of issues that are channeling more youth into the prison and detention center systems in San Diego.
Some of the intersectional issues that will be discussed at the summit are:
  • Food Justice
  • Transportation Justice
  • Racial Justice
  • Queer and Trans Youth Rights
  • Immigrants' Rights
  • Reproductive Justice
  • Know Your Rights when facing Suspensions, Expulsions and Police in Schools
